    A little local anaesthetic numbs the area which makes the procedure totally painless and there is minimal bleeding as the diathermy machine seals the blood vessels as it removes the mole. The surprise and delight is evident on clients’ faces when they look in the mirror and see the mole has vanished.

    The healing process takes around two weeks. It is important to keep the treated area covered with a dressing such as a transparent cold sore patch until it has healed. Moist wound healing will ensure no crust or scab forms which lowers your risk of scarring.

    The treated area will remain pinkish for a few weeks to a couple of months. After that, the treated area where the skin is younger and fresher may often appear a little lighter than the surrounding area. The texture of the skin may be also subtly different to the surrounding skin, as the newly grown skin has not been sun damaged in comparison.

    The end result is the raised, often darker unsightly mole is replaced by youthful new skin.

Some clinics recommend that the skin lesion must be checked by a doctor within the previous 6 months however this practice is substandard. Skin lesions can change within that time frame.

    It is important for the first three months after removal of the mole that you minimise your exposure to the sun or UV rays. If you are exposed to the sun you should ensure you use at least SPF 30+ sunscreen.
